Design Advice

I was looking through an old art scrapbook I kept for one of my drawing classes while in college and found this image of what I called a breakfast nook. I surrounded the pretty nook with quotes, and here I am almost five years later and I think these quotes are still very much applicable. I’m having trouble remembering where I grabbed the image from, but feel free to click on the pictures for a more legible look.  Yes, these images were scanned separately and for what ever reason wordpress is being a pain and has decided not to join them like I had planned. Life goes on.

xx

Gloom and Glow

https://i1.wp.com/lookbook.elledecor.com/images/2010/09/27/3_1285624756_restorative_power_11_2.jpg

The recent days have started off dark and gloomy, with a glistening sun fighting through the fog and later presenting its glow. Deep.

love you for reading me,

She’s a Freak, Oww

Unaware of the title, for the longest time I thought the Commodores song Brick House said, She’s a Freak, Oww.

Take a look at these pictures of exposed brick in the house.  I love this look and think it adds lots of texture to a space.

https://i1.wp.com/www.myfavoriteandmybest.com/storage/390_4_3g.jpg

After my friend told me her new house had exposed brick in the kitchen, I thought she was one lucky gal.

https://designstiles.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/ovrszdlampoutdrchairloft.jpg?w=233

But then she said her boyfriend, excuse me, fiance (she just got engaged!), wanted to knock it down.

https://i0.wp.com/www.decorpad.com/photos/2010/03/01/0913aed89c9e.jpg

Perplexed beyond belief, I felt it should be my mission to defend my exposed brick case.

https://i2.wp.com/www.decorpad.com/photos/2010/06/12/15968677619f.jpg

But I was too late. He simply did not like it and tore it down.

I wanted so badly to assure her that the durability of this brick could quite possibly prevent her kitchen from collapsing. Not that it was unstable or anything, but I needed backup to prove my point.

The Three Little Pigs. Did he forget that story?

https://designstiles.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/thisisglamorousexposedbrick.jpg?w=283

Not even a little bit, I wanted to ask?

He doesn’t even want to paint it?

https://designstiles.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/kitchen.jpg?w=300

Nope. No brick in this kitch.

Hope I didn’t make you feel bad, GC. But maybe you can make him feel bad.

Kidding, kidding.

Thanks for stopping by,

Planning for the Future and Listening To

I’ve decided that when the times comes to re-do our kitchen, I’m going with this herringbone pattern for our floor. I may even go with the black. And if anyone wants to donate all the other materials, call me.

https://i0.wp.com/www.myfavoriteandmybest.com/storage/kitchenviatommysmythe.jpg

And for Christmas, I’m asking for a closet makeover.

https://designstiles.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/domino.jpg?w=245

I like to joke around and say I have a walk-in closet because it’s about 2-3 feet deeper than the standard. It’s more of a step-in, stand-in and fantasize about a walk-in kinda closet, but this image here shows promise that I can make mine real cute.

And today I’m going to listen to this song on repeat.

Love you for reading me,

Irene Lovett

I Like Your stILe: Hallie

Months ago, about six, Paloma from La Dolce Vita featured a reader’s home. It is so stylish and chic that I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Because I was new to this whole blogging thing and still hadn’t learned to file pretty pictures away, I hopped on over to her blog today to try to find it. Problem was, Paloma has been in the game years before me and has tons of (great) posts to go through. Leaping from distraction to distraction, I went into my memory bank for clues – ahhh, hasn’t failed me just yet. David Hicks’ La Fiorentina was the key piece to the puzzle. Took me about 15 mins, but I found it.

Hallie’s Apartment

I’m down with any girl who uses a plethora of flea market and estate sale finds.

Her zebra cowhide was found on ebay. She also designed and built her lucite ottoman (!!!) while in college. I think it’s fair to assume she passed this class with high scores. If she lived around these parts, I’d totally break into her place and steal those stools. I also spy a mirrored tray from Target.

Like mine.

Fantastic dresser. She made it even more fantastic by adding a mirrored top. She also had a lamp made out of the Blanc de Chine figurine.

Check out her neat lamp. Reminds me of mine.

Okay, enough about me. That white console is pretty sweet too.

She found her table base at an estate sale and found the glass for it on Craigslist. Smart shopper. She also painted and reupholstered her own chairs.

Recognize those candlestick holders on her table? I do!

Sorry, I know I said enough about me.

Her bedroom. Love that her side tables and lamps don’t match.

Here’s the lovely Mrs. Hallie on her wedding day, in January!!! Same month I got married. Soul Sisters?

Too bad she doesn’t have a blog. Not that I know of at least. Otherwise I’d be all up on it like a bee on some honay.
