Friday You're So Fun

Weekend time. Don’t have any concrete plans but I’m hoping to do something I haven’t done before. Maybe I’ll drink cheap booze, talk to strangers and make a fool of myself on the dance floor. Oh wait, something I haven’t done before. I can try that restaurant I been talking about. Check out the Designer Tag Sale. Go to a bonfire dressed as a warrior princess. Pretend I’m an exchange student and don’t know any English. ¡Perdón!, pero solamente comprendo Español. Get together with friends, get in a car, roll the windows down and blast crappy music. Wear four-inch heels to the grocery store and not mind if I get stared at for being taller than the majority of everyone in there. I’m gonna do it and I recommend doing at least one thing you haven’t done before too. What point is life if you can’t have a little or a lotta fun. Have it!

I Like Your stILe: Brittany (literal) Stiles

After a year of contemplating whether or not to start a blog, I bit the bullet and started designstILes. Short, sweet, personal and representative of what I’d feature. Best of all, the I and the L signify my initials. Feeling clever, the next big step was to start a Twitter account. All the other cool blogs were doing it and felt it was the right move to monopolize on my clever name. Turns out it was already taken. Whaaaaaa? {Talking to the Twitter sign-up page} You mean someone was clever before me? But my I and L are capitalized? That’s got to count for something, right? Let me try again. Username has already been taken. BY WHO? Why would anyone want it? It’s long, ugly, sounds dumb and makes zero sense. Defeated my own name, I chose second best: IdesignstILes. But not without scoping out this so-called clever person who stole my name first. Brittany Stiles.  A true, legitimate Interior Designer. Her last name is really Stiles and didn’t try to get all cute with it by making up her own spelling. Damn.

Sure enough, her work is awesome. I’ve been following her blog since and recently realized she added me to her blogroll, which is like major props in the blog world. Thanks Brit, Brit (we’re cool like that, no?) Without further ado, I share with you the real Stiles.

A bird’s-eye view of the previous photo. The warm tones are inviting and comfortable and make it look a bit vintage-y. And that pendant really hits the spot.

Pretty distinct from the previous room, I love that she’s able to show a less feminine side while still mixing design styles.

And she does events too! Call me, I can help you.

This has got to be one the dreamiest pictures of Los Angeles I’ve ever seen. And one of the most romantic lace dresses I’d like to call my own.

Bargain Bin: Polaroid Art

I love how Polaroid pictures make any shot look like you’ve stepped back in time and give even the most amateur of photoggers (me) picture-taking credibility.

If Polaroid film wasn’t so freaking expensive, I’d buy boat loads of it and dedicate an entire wall in our house to all my aimless shots.  Because the cost-per-picture is about two dollars, I have to be selective about the images I choose to capture and it pains me to waste it on a practice shot, so I’ve relied on my handy ShakeIt iPhone app to help improve my (lack of) skills.  It’s been way more fun to see ordinary pictures look a lot more artistic.

If you’re into Shaking It Like A Polaroid Picture too, here are how the pros do it.  If you also happen to be looking for an inexpensive way to add unique art to your home, these images are way affordable. Your walls will thank you.

Music to My Eyes Listening To

Thom Yorke – Eraser (I recommend Harrowdown Hill)

Mondays make me a bit depresso and waking up to a gloomy JULY morning doesn’t seem to help the cause. Misery loves company and Thom Yorke can accompany me anytime. The paired room is a bit cheerier than my current state of mind.

Eesh, proofreading this makes me come off as a total Debbie Downer. Sorry. The sun is now out and am much happier. See, I’m smiling. : )

Friday You're So White

Yesterday morning, I was pleasantly surprised by a sweet message written on a petal from our Magnolia Tree left atop my computer by The Husband. Later that night, when we walked our little doggies, he picked off another petal and once again declared his love for the Magnolia Tree. I say once again because he never fails to inform me of just how much he loves the leathery feel of each petal. And I never fail to tease him on how he should’ve been born a female. I love his sensitive ways and was immediately inspired to post pretty white images that remind me of such petals.
