Waiting for You

Los Angeles weather has been feeling more like Winter than Spring, which means I’m highly anticipating Summer.

Can’t Wait.

Weather, Weather

I leave for Lake Tahoe early Friday Morning and had high hopes of basking in the sun and wearing something like this:

Almost SummerBut current temperatures will require that I dress more like this:

Feels Like Winter

I pretty much think it’s freezing if it drops below 70, so we’ll see how I manage when the low is going to be 33.

No. 5

available here

I went to Target yesterday and stumbled upon the above glass jar lamp. I’ve been seeing such lamps pop up everywhere but wasn’t ever really drawn to them until I saw this one. The No. 5 printed on the front made this one stand out from the rest. I turned to my right and turned to my left but there was no one there to take in the joy of finding such a stellar item. I quickly thought of who I may be able to persuade into making this purchase but decided I could pair it with other items to make it more convincing. I like the idea of using it in an industrial, rustic, cottage living room. Take a look at some items I think will complement this fun lamp.

Sunday's to Relax

Sunday was dedicated to sanding a faux bamboo nightstand I bought at the Goodwill several months ago. The Sistah (brought an accent table) and BCF (sanded a chair) came over to get the (sanding) party started. I’ll admit, I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, nor did I bother researching what kind of sandpaper I would need to remove the gloss from my nightstand. Luckily, the BCF came fully prepared now that she’s a pro. She can add a stool, frame and chair to her resume and the fact that she can knock out pieces faster than I can find ’em, makes me wanna make her my business partner.

Take a look at what a mess we made we produced.

My sister does amazing work.

I sanded, primed and spray painted mine in a high-gloss black to try to achieve the look of most high-end bamboo pieces. The greek key-esque hardware allow it to appear more expensive than the $19 I paid.

Other faux bamboo pieces:

Channeling Carrie

I’m probably one of the few women who has zero desire to go out and watch the Sex and the City sequel. (After watching the first one two and a half times, I realized how annoying it was). I’ll hold out for the killer wardrobe once the movie hits my On Demand. I love Aidan, but don’t find it plausible that him and Carrie coincidentally reunite in a desert far, far away from New York City. Therefore, I’ll roll my eyes at the plot in the comfort of my own home.

I’m sure many of you have noticed some of Carrie’s outfits circling the web and her blue Halston Heritage dress got me all excited because I have one pretty darn similar.

I bought mine at Swift, a  local vintage shop, almost four years ago for about $30. You can buy the Halston Heritage dress here. Just an FYI, it’s $435. Irene Lovett comes up again, ooooooooh yeah.

Speaking of Carrie outfits, allow me to share some of my favorite:

https://designstiles.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/carrie-season4vintdress.jpg?w=300

I would never dare wear a see through dress, but she pulls it off without looking trashy.

Her pinned flowers started a craze.

Classic

The striped skirt is delish and she made the Gucci fanny pack look très chic.

I went out and bought a Mickey Mouse t-shirt as soon as I could.

She wore a cape. A cape! How fabulous.

I remember being in awe of how well she could work some high-rise shorts.

Not exactly an outfit, the “Carrie” necklace is iconic and had my friends rush out to buy their own. I was inspired and chose a bracelet.

Sidenote: It’s incredibly awkward posing for an outfit picture even when the husband is taking the shots. This one of me was the least pose-y and captured a real expression. Props to the pro models.
